Es gab in Zeiten vor Internet und MP3 die Regel des dritten Albums: Make it or break it. Rock es oder versau es. Genau das haben sich die Jungs von Royal Tusk, einer kanadischen Hardrock-Band auch gedacht. Heute waren Gitarrist Quinn Cyrankiewicz und Bassist Sandy McKinnon bei uns zu Besuch. Wir haben uns mit ihnen darüber unterhalten, warum ihr letztes Album mehr grungey klingt und sie sich dabei aber wohler fühlen.

Royal Tusk: You know, we just started writing, all of us together and it was coming together really organically and that was the sound that came. We weren’t actively trying to write heavier music, that’s just what happened.

Auf dem Albumcover ihres letzten Albums „Tusk 2“ sieht man eine gezeichnete Hand mit zwei abgeschnittenen Fingern. Quinn und Sandy haben uns die Geschichte dazu erzählt.

Royal Tusk: The Story goes back to like midevil ages, when they’d capture an archer, they would cut his fingers of because it would render him useless in battle. So i guess the story goes that an archer escpaed and he would run away and he sort of gave the two fingers to the guy in the tower to show him like he got away.

Im Gegensatz zu vielen Rockbands handeln die Songs von Royal Tusk nicht ausschließlich von Sex und Drogen, in dem Video zu ihrem Song Aftermath werden viele Krawalle und Kämpfe gezeigt. Die Hintergründe haben sie uns erklärt.

Royal Tusk: The point of the song was kind of to show how people… through social media become insensitive or desensetised to those kinds of things like how we get bombarded with bad news every single day and after a while people turn themselves off to it. It’s sad, we are not here to preach and say that’s not right. There’s so much crap going on around the world that people need to be aware of.
